CDOC World Team Drivers Roundup - Daytona 250
July 3, 2008 — Daytona Beach, FL — CDOC World Team Driver Darren Law captured 5th place at the Brumos Porsche 250 at Daytona International Speedway Thursday, he and teammate David Donohue's 4th consecutive top-5 finish. Law and Donohue, driving the #58 Brumos Porsche Riley Daytona Prototype, sit tied for 13th place in the DP standings with six races yet to run in 2008. Mark Wilkins led 16 laps of the race for the #61 Exchange Traded Gold Ford-Riley, after a daring pass on the first lap and a wild, 160-mph spin due to a cut tire.
Wilkins said, "The car was absolutely fantastic today and it was a really big boost for the team to get pole. The race was going well and I learned early that we needed to preserve brakes to be there at the end. The spin? Yeah, that was a bit hairy and I was really happy not to hit the wall and end our day. When I handed the car over to Brian I knew we were quick and that from third, the race would come back to us. Unfortunately, we got bitten although we did see the checker." Mark continued, "At the end of the day we were disappointed but know that we are just a step away. This was another big step on top of the result at Mid-Ohio and both Brian and are feeling even more confident going into the next race at Barber."
CDOC CEO Colin Dougherty said, "It was a great thrill to see Mark capture his first pole position in the Grand-Am Rolex Sports Car Series, and disappointing to see their race unravel due to a cut tire. Mark and Brian are showing some true speed, and I suspect that before the end of the year, we'll see them get to the top step of the podium. CDOC's happy to support them, and we're excited to get to the top step, too! As always, Darren Law was solid, taking 5th, and I like what I'm seeing from Burt Frisselle and Ricky Taylor, too. It's been a great season so far, and we're excited to see the rest of the season out!"
