Johannes van Overbeek and Darren Law Finish 1-2 in Porsche World Cup

Image December 8, 2007 — Stuttgart, Germany — CDOC World Team drivers and Porsche racing stalwarts Johannes van Overbeek and Darren Law collected prestigious honors today, as it was announced by Porsche Executive Vice-President for Development Wolfgang Dürheimer that the duo had captured a 1-2 finish in the venerable Porsche World Cup. The award, given annually since 1970, honors the most successful private drivers of each racing season, worldwide. Previous winners have included legendary racers Bob Wollek, Klaus Ludwig and Bernd Schneider, and to win the Porsche World Cup is a capstone to a successful racing career.

For Johannes van Overbeek, 2007 was the most successful season of his career. Beginning with a 3rd place finish at the Rolex 24 at Daytona, van Overbeek collected podium finishes in the ALMS at the 12 Hours of Sebring, St. Petersburg, Houston and Utah driving the #45 Flying Lizard Porsche GT3 RSR. van Overbeek and teammate Jörg Bergmeister won at Lime Rock, Mid-Ohio and the classic Petit Le Mans (with Marc Lieb), en route to 2nd place in the ALMS GT2 Driver?s Championship.

Johannes, Jörg and Marc Lieb came within inches of capturing the win at Sebring in March, when, memorably, the Ferrari of Jamie Melo barely beat Jörg?s Porsche to the finish line in a door-banging, sparks-flying last lap battle. Johannes, Jörg and Seth Neiman had the fastest race lap and ran comfortably in the top 5 at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in June, before mechanical troubles ended their run after 10 hours.

van Overbeek said, "I'm honored to be presented with the 2007 Porsche World Cup. I wouldn't have won the Cup without the teamwork, hard work and dedication to excellence of many: Flying Lizard Motorsports, my teammates - Jörg Bergmeister, Marc Lieb, and Seth Neiman. Having first rate gear from CDOC contributed to the performances that led to winning the Porsche World Cup.?"
Darren Law, one of the busiest drivers on the planet, pulled double duty in 2007, driving the #44 Flying Lizard Porsche GT3 RSR in the ALMS and the #58 Brumos Riley-Porsche Daytona Prototype in the Grand-Am Rolex Series. Law collected podium finishes at Long Beach and Detroit in the ALMS, as well as at VIR and Sonoma in Grand-Am. He finished 6th in the Driver's Championship in Grand-Am, and demonstrated that consistency is key to chasing championships.

Law said, "I am honored to have finished second among such a prestegious group of drivers. I couldn't have done it without the help of so many people. I want to specifically thank both the Flying Lizard organization and the Brumos team for a great season. I had great teammates this year with both David Donohue at Brumos and Seth Neiman at Flying Lizard. I also want to thank CDOC. Colin and everyone at CDOC have been supporting me for several years now, they provide products and services that are second to none in the racing industry."

Colin Dougherty, President of CDOC said, "I want to congratulate Johannes and Darren for their outstanding accomplishment. Winning the Porsche World Cup means that you?re the most successful private Porsche racer in the world, and to think of how many people race Porsches around the world, that?s a pretty amazing accomplishment. At CDOC, we're happy to have helped supply Johannes and Darren as they raced around the world, and we're hoping for their continued success."
