CDOC World Team Driver Roundup - New Jersey
August 31, 2008 — Millville, NJ —
In a dusty and wild SuperCar Life 250 at the all-new New Jersey Motorsports Park, CDOC World Team Drivers Mark Wilkins and Brian Frisselle finished 6th in the DP class in their #61 AIM Autosport Ford Riley. Wilkins nabbed the pole on Saturday at the 2.25-mile, 12-turn layout with a lap of 1:11.761 (112.875 mph) late in the 15-minute session, good enough to capture his second pole position of the season. He won the pole at Daytona in July the last time he qualified, while co-driver Brian Frisselle also won a pole at Watkins Glen International earlier this month.
Oswaldo Negri Jr. held off Max Angelelli by .459 seconds Sunday to win the first professional feature race at New Jersey Motorsports Park, the Supercar Life 250, while Scott Pruett and Memo Rojas clinched the Daytona Prototype team championship with a ninth-place finish in a backup car.
Negri led the final 45 laps in the No. 60 Michael Shank Racing Ford Riley started by Mark Patterson, scoring the second career victory for the team. Negri and Patterson teamed to win the 2006 season-ending race at Miller Motorsports Park near Salt Lake City, Utah. It was their first podium finish since they placed third at Homestead-Miami Speedway, after Negri won the pole for the season-opening Rolex 24 At Daytona.
Angelelli came up short in a bid for the second consecutive triumph for the No. 10 SunTrust Racing Pontiac Riley started by Michael Valiante.
CDOC World Team Driver Darren Law teamed with Philadelphia native David Donohue for a 10th-place finish, and enter the last race of the season - the Sunchaser 1000km at Miller Motorsports Park - tied for third place in the championship.
Law said, "That was a tough weekend overall. We had a decent first session, but I think we were just a bit off with the set up. We decided to change the car the night before the race and it did improve the handling. David had a great stint, but things went down hill a bit. It is still another top 10 though, and we are still third in the championship standings. We'll take it to Miller and see how things turn out. It'll be our last shot at a win for the season, and David and I will working hard to try and get it."
The finale of the 2008 Rolex Sports Car Series takes place at the SunRichGourmet.com 1000 presented by the Grand and Little America Hotels at Miller Motorsports Park on September 19-21. Television coverage will be on Speed.
