The interaction between CDOC and its partner teams in professional Motorsport sometimes goes beyond the track. Roger Garbow, Marketing Director for Farnbacher-Loles Racing, will participate in the 2008 Pan-Mass Challenge, a bike-a-thon that crosses the Commonwealth of Massachussetts benefitting the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, and CDOC will support his effort. Founded in 1947, the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute has been committed to providing cancer patients with the best treatment available today while developing tomorrow's cures through cutting-edge research. The 2-day Pan-Mass Challenge has raised over $200m since 1980 for cancer research, and Garbow is excited to participate this year.

He said, “In addition to being a car enthusiast, I have been a recreational cyclist all my life. Like most of us, I love fast cars. But for one weekend a year, my legs are more powerful.
In 1992, I rode in my first Pan-Mass Challenge at the urging of my wife’s uncle. Going into the event, it was more for the personal challenge of the ride than the greater good. Up to that point, I had the good fortune of not having any direct experiences with the devastation of cancer. That summer weekend changed my life. It was a truly remarkable and moving experience.

9 years (and 2 children) later, I was the one introducing others to the PMC experience. My good friend Dave rode with me in 2001. The next year, our buddy and resident cycling ace Monte joined us and a team was born. Team Ronni, was named for Ronni Duncan, an amazing and courageous wife and mother who recently lost her more than decade-long fight against cancer. Ronni's husband Gary has been riding with us for 7 years. And in 2007, their daughter Jenna completed her first PMC after volunteering for 5 years. Gary and Jenna keep Ronni's memory alive and keep the rest of us moving forward through their own determination.

This year, through the encouragement of Gary and Jenna, we have become Team Molly. Molly Callahan is a 12 year old who has leukemia. Our team made up of nearly 20 individuals, each with a unique story but sharing the common goal of helping in the battle and ultimately defeating cancer. We have all been touched by this insidious disease. It does not discriminate between men or women, adults or children. And the only way to defeat it is through medical research. But that costs money. Lots of it. We are willing to do what we can. And through the support of generous individuals and companies like the good folks at CDOC, we are making a difference.”

CDOC President Colin Dougherty said, “Obviously, cancer is something that affects many people in one form or another. I’m thrilled that Roger asked for CDOC’s support, and very happy to give it. While Roger’s got a tough 2-day endurance challenge in front of him, it’s great that he can take time away from the business of racing to help the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute.”
