Meet Darren Law
Who says nice guys always finish last? Darren Law is certainly proving that statement wrong.
Throughout the course of his enviable 28-year racing career, Law has earned himself a reputation for being a great team player and all-around likeable guy, both on and off the track. He's also placed high in a heck of a lot of races and won three championships in the process — most recently reaching the top of the heap in the 2001 Grand-Am Rolex Series GT class.
Ever humble, Law is quick to share the credit for his success.
"I have the support of a great team and great program behind me," he says.
Law got his first taste of racing at the tender age of 11 when he took to the track in a go-kart in southern California. Three years later, he would go on to be named the 1982 IKF Grand National Karting Driver Champion.
The undeniable lure of racecars then took Law across the pond to Europe, where he raced formula cars — and raced them well — against some of the fastest drivers in the world. From that point on, there was no turning back. Law's racing career was off and running.
Law's diverse racing history has spanned a wide range of vehicles and series, and resulted in an impressive string of top-10 and top-five finishes, including second place in the 2004 American LeMans Series Drivers Championship GT class and second place in the 2002 Grand-Am Rolex Series Drivers Championship SRPII class. He also placed second his very first time out at the Petit Le Mans GT class in 1998.
As if that's not enough, Law has also participated in Baja events and shared his knowledge with others as a driving instructor and a personal coach.
In 2007, Law is putting his technical savvy and top-level driving to use in the Grand-Am Rolex DP Series with Brumos Racing, and driving the 58 Red Bull car for Flying Lizard Motorsports in the ALMS GT2 Porsche Series. His favorite track stops include Watkins Glen, Mosport and Mid-Ohio.
When asked about his goals for the future, Law's response is simple.
"Stay at the top of the sport within the classes I'm running in and compete for the overall win in the prototypes," he says. "That's what I enjoy most."
Law lives in Phoenix. He's been married to his wife, Karrie, for 15 years and has two daughters, Megan and Hannah.
