Meet Burt and Brian Frisselle

Burt and Brian Frisselle

For brothers Burt and Brian Frisselle, racing is a family affair.

Both Skip Barber grads, Burt and Brian are continuing the family racing lineage — their father, Brad, is a Sports Car Club of America Divisional Champion, International Motor Sports Association Camel GT veteran and former Brumos Porsche driver.

Brian and Burt are proving themselves worthy of racing recognition in their own right. In 2007, they share Grand Am driving duties for AIM Autosport in the No. 61 Lexus Riley DP. They're also competing against each other in the Whelen All-American Series (formerly the Dodge Weekly Series).

"Even when I'm running with Burt, we're still competing — you still want to try to outpace your teammate," Brian says. "I like working with him in the Grand Am Series; it's fun when we can accomplish things together."

"We've been teammates for three years now, so we've come to learn how each other operates," Burt agrees. "In the Whelen Series, if there's anyone on the track I trust, it's him. We want each other to succeed."

Burt, age 26, made his rookie debut in the Barber Dodge Pro Series in 2003 and the Grand Am Rolex Series DP class in 2004 for Michael Shank Racing. Brian, 23, enjoyed a fourth-place finish in the 2003 Formula Dodge National season. In 2004, he ran in the Star Mazda Series, and drove home a second-place finish at Road America for PoleVision Racing in the Formula BMW USA Series.

In 2005, the Frisselles' racing paths converged when Burt and Brian became the youngest full-time Grand Am DP duo, representing Synergy Racing. They joined forces again for Synergy in 2006, fulfilling a lifelong dream of racing with Al Unser, Jr. to finish ninth at Sahlen's Six Hours of the Glen. Last year, they earned the fifth spot in the Discount Tire Sunchaser at Miller Park for Michael Shank Racing, a track they're looking forward to revisiting in 2007.

"We like the long races, I've definitely got Miller on my radar again this year," Burt says.

As to what the future holds for the Frisselle brothers...

Brian says he'd like to continue in the DP series.

"Eventually, I'd like to move up to circle track racing — trucks or ARCA," he says.

Both Burt and Brian agree a NEXTEL Cup run would be nice somewhere down the road, if the timing's right.

"If the opportunity comes along, I'd love to make a move toward NASCAR, but my heart is really in road racing," Burt says. "Long-term, I just want to keep making a living doing what I love."

Burt and Brian live together in Lynchburg, Virginia.
